The Amulet of Mist.
It was thirteen years today, since my parents adopted me.Thirteen years of fake smiles,Peer pressure and hope; Since that day, I have never, not once removed my necklace…My mother tells me not to take my necklace off.. EVER, If I did, I think she would kill me for such rebellious acts!
I’ve always thought I was different.
          -your friend, Harley Farlow.
Diary entry 001. 16/04/2013
Harley had every right to be suspicious, she was an intelligent young girl and not the slightest mistake could escape her eagle eye, like the time when she and Mrs.Farlow went shopping at the hardware store, she tried to tell Mrs Farlow she could not see herself in a mirror but she merely tapped Harley on the shoulder as if to indicate she did not want such an unnecessary fuss.                 Every family portrait was always the same. Harleys strawberry blonde hair bouncing in an array of curls, her mother’s stern eyes, piercing the camera and the last consistent trait… The necklace.
Harley grew up without a father, but,as her mother told her; Harley didn’t need a father, Harley didn’t require a father and Harley didn’t want a father.
At thirteen years old, Harley began to disagree with her mother’s decisions more and more every day; she wanted to go out with her friends, have sleepovers full to the brim with laughter, but Mrs Farlow forbidded it. Her excuse was always the same old poise thing, “A lady is a Lady and a Lady certainly does not giggle all night long, nor does she frolic around with her acquaintances.”
Two days after Harley wrote her very first diary entry, her and her mother began to bicker and squabble; “ITS NOT FAIR. I WANT A LIFE. I WANT FREEDOM AND I WANT FRIENDS, NOT A NAGGING WITCH LIKE YOU!” balled Harley, who shortly after pounded up the stairs with a heart pumping full of adrenaline. She slammed her door with a thump; Harleys raging mind was hard to contain! She ripped down her curtains, she stamped on her books and, she ragged off her necklace..
